This just in: ‘Teen Mom’ star Amber Portwood was sentenced to prison Tuesday after getting in a whole heap of legal trouble, including felony drug charges, dropping out of rehab, and lying about a failed urine test.
Portwood was first arrested on felony domestic violence charges in November 2010 because of incidents seen on her show — where she was shown shoving, punching, slapping and choking her boyfriend, Gary Shirley.
Wow. Just wow.
While it was probably a very good thing that MTV captured footage this girl going nuts on her boyfriend so it could be used against her in a court of law at a later time, why didn’t the crew step in and help??
And then, they aired it! Perhaps not the best choice. It seem that the footage should have been used as evidence, not entertainment.
I’ll admit, I’m coming in blind here – I have NOT seen this episode (nor do I watch the show). I do, however, remember all the drama of Snooki getting punched in the face at the bar by that dude? They blacked out the moment of impact so viewers couldn’t see it. (But they still aired it too!)
From the looks of it, the Snooki punch happened so fast that who knows if a crew member could have intervened. From the description of Portwood’s rampage, it seemed that she had been going at her man for a while.
From everything I have read about Portwood, it seems that she is (or was) headed down a pretty bleak path.
So, here’s the BIG QUESTION: Was her behavior and the resulting mess she’s gotten herself into a result of her reality show fame or, simply being such a young mom with a drug problem who had no clue how raise a baby?
It is really easy to get swept up in the glitz and glamour of having a camera crew all around you and getting fawned over by producers and such. You really need to a have a good head on your shoulders going into a reality show situation, or something like what happened to Amber Portwood might be the end result.
Too bad.
